We learned the difference between expected and unexpected behavior and practiced identifying behaviors as expected or unexpected. When we talk about expected and unexpected behaviors, we are not talking about whether we think a behavior will likely happen or not. Instead, we are talking about the effect the behavior will have on others. If the behavior will likely result in other people feel good or comfortable, we call the behavior an EXPECTED behavior. If the behavior will likely result in other people feeling uncomfortable or upset, we call it an UNEXPECTED behavior. Expected behaviors help us to be successful at school and make friends. Unexpected behaviors can get us into trouble at school and make other people less likely to want to be our friend. If we have done a lot of unexpected behaviors in the past, we can start doing more expected behaviors from now on, and this will likely result in more positive experiences at school and with peers. |
